withdrawn lonely.
The life of the world
can be
teeming around us:
the high decibel sounds
can be
dinning in our ear
and still
we can be lonely.

It is possible
to be lonely
in a crowd.

Loneliness haunts
the places
where
crowds gather.

It is not the presence
or absence of people
that makes
the difference
because a person
need not be lonely
even if he is alone.

Sometimes
it is good
to be alone.
But
that does not
make us lonely.

It is not a matter
of being present
with someone.
It is a matter
of being present
to someone.

We need someone
in whose presence
we can
be our ugly selves
without having
to worry
the image we create

We need someone
who will accept us
without question,
who will love us
"just because"

We have a need
to be accepted
not for any
special quality,
not for any
grand achievement,
but simply
for ourselves.

The opinion we have
of ourselves
is often
a reflection of
the opinion
we think others have
of us.

There are
many people
who know us,
but very few
who understand us.

Understanding
is more
of the heart
than
of the mind.

friends always
